The summers are hot and humid and the winters are cold and humid with lake effect winter that makes it feel colder. There can be a string of subzero temps.

Winter gear: most suggest waiting until you get there to either ship it through Amazon or buy it there. It is bulky and takes up room in your suitcase.
You will need a good, warm coat, warm gloves (heated are super nice), ear muffs or a hat that covers ears, thermal garments or regular thermals, warm, wool socks, and good boots.
Consider fleece lined slacks layered with thermals. Layering is the key to staying warm.
A tip is to carry a golf ball to knock doors and don’t have to remove gloves or mittens.

Boots most recommended: Blundstone and Sorel.

You will also want sweaters and a lighter jacket for cooler temperatures in the Spring and Fall.

You will want a sling bag that is on the smaller side. Just big enough to fit a Book of Mormon.

Pack extra Pday and exercise clothing. You do a lot of service, so you’ll want good clothing to work.

This mission has cars and bikes. Sometimes you use bikes when you have a car. You don’t really know what the need will be until you are assigned an area. Most recommend not purchasing a bike before you reach the mission. You can often buy a bike from an outgoing missionary, sometimes they have ones to borrow, and some end up purchasing from a reliable vendor the mission home can direct you to.
