Climate: This mission covers three countries, so the weather can be very different depending on what area you are assigned and when. Generally, though, they all experience 4 seasons. Warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Rain is possible year round as well. There is very little air conditioning there, so summers can get a little warm.
Clothing: Bring clothing for all seasons. Prices are much more expensive for clothing, including coats and warm weather things, but you can find pretty much whatever you would need. Missionaries exchange and trade clothing a lot!
Pack serveral sets of pday clothing. They do service often and they also do some rigorous activities on pday, so you'll want serveral options. Some shoes with good traction for hiking in the mountains is nice to have too.
Amazon Germany is really great for shipping things to a missionary. Sending packages is not recommended because they charge customs fees that are pretty pricey and the mission home will not pay. Sometimes missionaries do not receive their packages because of this, but packages will be accepted from Amazon. It may take several weeks to get their stuff, though.
Buy a blow dryer and curling iron (if needed) there.
Pack missionaries with thermal garments. It will be very nice during cold winters. Fleece lined tights are also wonderful for Sisters to have. Layering is your friend.
You will not need bedding. Most apartments have surplus or it can just be purchased there.
Shoes: Warm insulated Chelsea boots (Blundstones are recommended most often) and wear merino wool socks in the winter. Also, a cozy pair of slippers to wear around the apartment is nice.
Bring a credit card with no foreign transaction fees. They do not accept American Express, though, but do accept Visa.
Bring Ibuprofen and allergy medications as you can only get that there with a prescription.
