In Baltimore proper, missionaries use public transportation, in other areas, the sometimes share a car and bike alternating days (bikes are provided) and some areas they will have their own car.
Don’t take up room in your suitcase with bedding. But it there or have it shipped to the mission office so it is waiting upon arrival.
In winter, it gets cold. Humid cold that can cut right through. It is all about the LAYERS. You will want a warm waterproof coat, some thermal garments or underwear, and cardigans, sweaters, or sweater vests.
A heated vest and heated gloves or rechargeable hand warmers are wonderful.
You will definitely need a rain jacket as well.
Get some waterproof boots. Blundstone and Sorel are excellent options.
Wool socks will help keep feet warm.
An electric blanket is a lifesaver for sleeping.
Missionaries carry a crossbody bag or a backpack.
