louisiana map outline

Climate: long, hot, humid summers and short, mild to cool winters. A lot of people say, “you will never be hotter, colder, or sweatier” than this mission.

The summers are hot and humid, so short sleeves are pretty important. Bring extra garments (mesh or stretch cotton) and extra shirts because sometimes you end up taking a couple showers a day. Some sweat rags to carry around are nice to have.
Elders: Suits are only worn for conferences and on Sundays. Black golf or other dark colored pants are best, as the other colors show sweat marks on your bum.

It is only cold for a couple of weeks a year, but with the humidity it is bitingly cold. Consider waiting to send a coat to save room in the suitcase. But you will need some warmer clothing in the winter, such as sweaters and a coat.

This mission has a mix of driving, walking, and biking. Even in driving areas, you drive to that town, then walk or bike from there. So good, comfortable shoes will be best in this mission.
Also invest in good quality socks.

You will want shoes to be Waterproof, as it rains quite a bit in the summer.

A good, light-weight rain jacket is important.

Missionaries do a lot of service in this mission, so bring some good work gloves and extra Pday clothes.

There are lots of bugs and allergies.

Serve
Serve $50–$55/shirt

Serve shirts have a ventilation panel in the side of the shirt making them noticeably more breathable. Missionaries serving in hot or humid places absolutely RAVE about this feature. The most popular shirt for hot-climate missions, for sure.
