There are currently four missions in Santiage (North, East, South, and West). This section applies to all of them. Santiago has a mild Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers (November to March) and cool, humid winters (May to August). Can find sweaters and clothing easily there. Usually only wear a suit to church or special occasion. A lot of walking, so good shoes are a must. ECCO Helsinki and Track 25 have held up well for Elders as well as the Sorel Cyprus Waterproof Boot. They carry a crossbody bag for everyday things. For Elders Sorel hiking boots are recommended a lot, especially for the winter cold and rainy months, with some even requesting a 2nd pair for drying out. For warmer days Cole Haan's with the lazer cut to breathe more. Wear GOOD breathable socks. Some missionaries have trench foot issues not changing socks and shoes enough. Shoes with memory foam are not ideal as they soak up the sweat and humidity. A lot of families have stated that missionaries are allowed to wear plain black tennis shoes for everyday tracting. Shoe sizes for men larger than 12 are very difficult to find there.

Most parents send their Elders with at least 1 suit (most countries in South America only wear suits to church and meetings) and around 8–10 golf pants. Families are sending more shirts because of heat and humidity — 12–14 is the average. Note for Sisters serving in Brazil: feminine hygiene products are expensive there and tampons are often considered taboo. Be prepared to send a good supply with your Sister Missionary.
Serve shirts have a ventilation panel in the side of the shirt making them noticeably more breathable. Missionaries serving in hot or humid places absolutely RAVE about this feature. The most popular shirt for hot-climate missions, for sure.
