Wait to purchase your coat in the mission. There are coats there that will be warm and it saves room in the suitcase.

A heated vest for the coldest months will be appreciated. Also pack lots of sweaters and sweater vests.

Blundstone leather waterproof boots are great. You may even need a second pair.

There are lots of good thrift stores for pday shopping.

Blundstone (Elders) $210–$275

By far the most mentioned boots in ALL missionary threads. It is a Chelsea boot style. A thermal version is available for really cold climates. I haven't found a negative review of Blundstones. Many missionaries say these lasted their entire mission and still look nice.

RefrigiWear Men's Coats $170 +

These coats are a little pricey, but they've been said to be so, so nice for those extra cold areas of the world. They are rated for -50 degrees.
