Climate: In the summer (October-January) it is hot and humid, sometimes oppressively so. This is also the rainy season. The winter (February-September) is cooler, dryer, and breezier. It doesn't really get cold in Vitoria.
Wear light-weight and breathable fabrics (especially in the summer).
Sisters: Teva Hurricanes are the most recommended. And a pair of nicer shoes for Church. Bring enough tampons to last entire 18 months, as you cannot find tampons here.
Bring a good supply of deodorant. A mission's worth is advisable.
Bring a quick-drying towel that is thin. It is hard to get fluffy towels to dry out and can often smell mildewy.
Pack a good light-weight rain jacket and waterproof bag.
Medications that are a good idea: anti-diarrhea, anti-fungal cream, anti-itch cream, cold and allergy, mosquito repellent.
A rechargeable fan is quite nice for warm nights and for keeping mosquitos off.
Make sure you have a bank card as sometimes the mission funds get delayed.
They receive a copy of Preach My Gospel in English and Portuguese at the Sao Paulo MTC, so no need to bring them.

Most parents send their Elders with at least 1 suit (most countries in South America only wear suits to church and meetings) and around 8–10 golf pants. Families are sending more shirts because of heat and humidity — 12–14 is the average. Note for Sisters serving in Brazil: feminine hygiene products are expensive there and tampons are often considered taboo. Be prepared to send a good supply with your Sister Missionary.
This is a very comfortable, durable shoe that missionaries serving all over have loved!
7 inch Rechargeable Fan. These have been recommended for missionaries serving in Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Africa. They help keep you cooler at night, but also help keep bugs like mosquitos off at night too.
The power goes out frequently, so it is nice to have a solar power fan.
Serve shirts have a ventilation panel in the side of the shirt making them noticeably more breathable. Missionaries serving in hot or humid places absolutely RAVE about this feature. The most popular shirt for hot-climate missions, for sure.
