It is very windy and dusty, and in the southern areas, it can get quite cold.
Take good walking shoes and boots! You will wear them out, walking on uneven and unpaved roads. Bring 2-3 pair. Ecco hiking shoes with extra insoles are recommended most often. Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy shoes have also been recommended.
Invest in good socks as well.
Bring clothing to layer such as sweaters. The weather can change quickly during the day, so layers are nice for that variability. Colombia fleece zip up jacket has been mentioned as a favorite.
Also pack a waterproof shell for rain and a puffer jacket.
Several missionaries recommend a small sleeping bag for warmth and it is also helpful during transfers and exchanges.
Bring a sling bag for every day and also a backpack for pdays, transfers, and exchanges.

Most parents send their Elders with at least 1 suit (most countries in South America only wear suits to church and meetings) and around 8–10 golf pants. Families are sending more shirts because of heat and humidity — 12–14 is the average. Note for Sisters serving in Brazil: feminine hygiene products are expensive there and tampons are often considered taboo. Be prepared to send a good supply with your Sister Missionary.
Serve shirts have a ventilation panel in the side of the shirt making them noticeably more breathable. Missionaries serving in hot or humid places absolutely RAVE about this feature. The most popular shirt for hot-climate missions, for sure.
