It is HOT and HUMID in Taiwan. It has A LOT of rain! It can get a little bit chilly, but nothing more than sweater worthy. June through September is monsoon season and it can rain for weeks straight without a break.
WATERPROOF stuff is super important here. It is recommended to buy rain suits in Taiwan, as they have stuff that is best for the monsoons. A simple rain jacket won't suffice.
Bring deodorant and toothpaste, as they don't have items that are similar to what Americans are used to. Tampons are difficult to find as well.
It is considered disrespectful to not eat what you are given, so being picky is unacceptable.
Earthquakes are pretty common as well, so that is something to get used to.
Bikes and walking are the most common way for missionaries to get around.
There are a lot of mosquitos, especially during the summer, but they do have anti-itch creams available.
Sunscreen is a different formula and not as effective as ones found in the U.S.
They do not sell ibuprofen, but do sell acetaminophen.
