It is Hot, Hot, and humid and rainy ALL the time. You do not need any warm clothing. It is too hot for ponchos. You can purchase an umbrella there, if needed. A light rain coat is nice for some missionaries, others don't need it.
Missionaries need GOOD, comfortable, waterproof shoes and boots. They will need several pair and alternate them everyday. They walk a ton in this mission, across rivers and streams, so good socks and shoes will be very important!
Elders bring a pair of waterproof hiking boots and shoes, tennis shoes for Pday, and slip on shoes that can get wet for the shower and walking around the house. ECCO is highly recommended.
A shoe dryer is pretty nice as well.
You can also buy rubber boots there if wanted.
Wool or polyester socks or bamboo blends work well.
Sisters bring a couple pair of hiking sandals (must be closed toed), a pair of single colored tennis or hiking shoe that is waterproof, and slip on shower shoes. Brands recommended are Jambu Regional or KEEN hiking sandal.
A lot of Sisters wear ankle socks, just don't get them in white.
Elders: You only need 1 suit and 1-2 long sleeved shirts. You only wear a suit and a long sleeved shirt to zone conference. Do not spend a lot of money on a suit. There is a famiy from Guatemala that visits the mission office and makes a lot of missionaries a suit with custom lining with names and flags for $150-$200 if that is something you would like.
The rest of your shirts should be short sleeved. Light-weight, moisture-wicking golf pants work really well in this climate, but send extra. They wear them out.
Serve shirts (favorite with vented sides), &Collar shirts have been mentioned as doing well here. Amazon sells Alimen's & Gentle that are cheaper and are just as good too.
Sisters: bring light-weight and loose dresses. Try to avoid dresses that need a slip, as it makes them hotter. Polyester is better as it dries faster. Also, there are not tampons in Honduras. Bring an 18 month supply or consider a menstrual cup or disc.
Bring 8-12 pair of garments to start. There is a temple there, so more can be purchased there. You do not need to bring temple clothing. Elders only need baptismal clothing.
If you are serving within 1 hour of the temple, you will be able to go once per transfer.
Bring a waterproof sling bag and also a backpack for transfers and exchanges.
There is no hot water, so you will take cold showers, but it feels refreshing most days.
Bring a lightweight cooling blanket. Use mosquito repellent, generously. A rechargeable fan is also VERY helpful.
The mission provides a filtered water bottle, a new pillow and 1 journal to the missionaries.
Be sure to get a rabies shot in the MTC. It is free there. There are many rabid dogs, so a dog deterrent is very helpful.
The water is not potable to drink from the tap, but all apartments have blue water jugs of clean, filtered water that they replace when empty. Stores everywhere sell filtered bags of water as well.
Missionaries pay a pensionista to make lunch and dinner. They occasionally eat with members.
There are no washing machines in the apartments, so missionaries find someone in the area to wash their clothing. Bring a laundry bag that has good straps and portable like a backpack to make it easier transporting laundry to the cleaners.
Electrolytes like Liquid IV or LMNT are helpful in the heat.
You can get any toiletries you will need there.

For the most part, Honduras is really safe. The government has worked hard at eliminating gangs and it is much safer in the last couple of years. There is still some petty theft, so travel with as little money and sentimental items as possible.

Small games- spikeball, a basketball or soccer ball, UNO or Cover your Assets are hard to get in Honduras and very fun for the missionaries to play on Pday. Of course this varies by mission president as to whether or not allowed, but 6/2026 it is allowed.

Tips on Vaccinations like Yellow Fever and Typhoid: The cheapest options mentioned are Costco, GoodRX (request coupon), Walgreens, and County Health Department. You often have to request these vaccines and may have to pay for a travel consult. One helpful tip is to ask your doctor to send in a prescription for the vaccinations — some have had insurance cover the cost that way.
Along with Under Armour, these may be the most recommended pant for Elders. They have 4-way stretch, are quick drying, and lightweight. Many say these actually last longer and look nearly identical at a fraction of the price of some of the pricier brands like Lululemon.
Serve shirts have a ventilation panel in the side of the shirt making them noticeably more breathable. Missionaries serving in hot or humid places absolutely RAVE about this feature. The most popular shirt for hot-climate missions, for sure.
